How do I get started in the process?

The best way to get started is to contact Linda or Louise at 604-466-1220 and see if home sharing is right for you. You can also email us at home-share@younghusband.ca

Do I get to choose who lives in my home?

After the extensive application process and as contracts become available, supported individuals will be offered placement in homes that are deemed the best fit and match between them and the potential caregivers. Younghusband Resources respects the supported individuals and their stakeholders right to choice and independence. Ultimately it is a mutual decision between you and the person seeking a residence.

How much does it pay?

All rates vary and are dependent on individual contracts. For more information about pay structure, please contact Linda at home-share@younghusband.ca or 604-466-1220

How long until someone lives in my home?

After the application process is completed, and a person becomes a qualified home sharing contractor with YRL, they are placed on a waiting list for a contract. The time frame to when a supported person moves into their home is dependent on contracts becoming available, and finding the best match for the caregiver and supported individual.

Do they live with us all the time? Do I get a rest?

All home sharing contracts are for a full time, long term contract. Our desire is for the supported individual to stay at a contractors residence as long as they desire. Successful matches have lasted longer than 20 years. All contracts include monies designated for respite (rest) for 48 hours per month. Respite can be used as earned, or saved for a longer time away.

Am I qualified?

YRL prefers home sharing contractors to have experience in the social service field and with people living with disabilities. More importantly though than experience, we are looking for caring individuals that demonstrate the right kind of compassion, disposition, aptitude, skills, and physical accommodations  to care for a supported individual in their own home. If this is you, and you may lack traditional work experience in this field but would like to talk more about home sharing, please contact Linda at home-share@younghusband.ca or 604-466-1220
